Richard Jones, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist at Eye Site Sacramento in Sacramento and Folsom, California. Dr. Jones strives to deliver excellent eye care, ensuring patients receive the best treatment options to maintain their eye health.
Dr. Jones completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Davis, graduating with high honors. He then pursued his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and at the top 1% of his class.
After finishing his medical training, he received his residency training in ophthalmology at the University of Texas and had internship training in general surgery at the University of Arizona.
During the course of his career, Dr. Kira served as the chief of the department of ophthalmology at Mercy General Hospital and Sutter General Hospital. He was the past president of the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society. Currently, Dr. Kira is the medical director of Capitol City Surgery Center. In addition, Dr. Kira is the president and program director of Alta California Ophthalmology Society.
Passionate about creating the best experiences for his patients, Dr. Jones was named twice in the “Best Doctors in Sacramento” by the Sacramento Magazine. To enhance patient outcomes, he is a fellow in the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American Medical Association, California Academy of Ophthalmology, and the California Medical Association.
When he’s not helping patients, Dr. Jones enjoys bicycling and traveling internationally with his wife. He has traveled several times to participate in the Tour De France. He also loves skiing and hiking. He is also a public speaker and an avid volunteer with the International Eye Foundation and Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society’s SPIRIT Program.
